The Harvard Veterans Alumni Organization (HVAO) was founded in 2006 by one of our Vietnam Veterans, who felt that it was time to set the record straight regarding the long, proud military service the men and women of Harvard have provided our country. Our 501(c) incorporated structure is the Harvard Veterans Alumni Organization Inc., which is also a "Shared Interest Group" (SIG) of the Harvard Alumni Association (HAA). Our primary mission is to support of our student Veteran led, on-campus Harvard Veterans Organization (HVO).
Only a few years old, the HVO energizes the Harvard Student Veteran community (about 250 each academic year) through active outreach, communication, assistance and activities. Examples include a monthly open meeting for student Veterans and a mentorship program for ROTC Midshipmen and Cadets. In addition, we host an annual "Welcome to Harvard" tailgate at the first football home game; Memorial Day and Veterans Day gatherings at Memorial Church; and the new, and University sanctioned, tours of Harvard's Military Sights and Symbols. As a member of the Harvard Veterans Alumni Organization, you are invited to all of these events and will remain connected to the military and Veteran students on campus through a monthly email newsletter.
This 2015-2016 school year was special for the strengthening relationship between Harvard University and the Military. In the fall, over 60 of the living Medal of Honor recipients attended a ceremony in Memorial Church followed by lunch with current students during their annual convention.  This spring, the Secretary of Defense, Secretary of the Navy and Secretary of the Air Force all visited Harvard.  Air Force ROTC was welcomed back to campus, so that all services are now represented again. All of these activities will be incorporated to an update of our 2015 White Paper on Harvard-Military Integration, The Long Crimson Line, which we expect to publish this spring. We continue to advocate for a stronger relationship, but are proud of the progress made.
We welcome your membership in the Harvard Veterans Organization.  Membership is free and easy.  Login using your HarvardKey and join our team!

While a bright future beckoned they freely gave their lives and fondest hopes for us and our allies that we might learn from them courage in peace to spend our lives making a better world for others."
